How to Move Your House in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Starting life in New Horizons as a nubcake means you may make several wrong choices, such as your starting map, where you pitch your tent, or even the kinds of residents you bring onto your island.

Thankfully, the game allows you to correct this mistake as you progress in your campaign, a correction that will dig a subtle hole in your pocket. It’s all worth it since the only option you have to relocate your house is to restart the game. And that’s a no-go area for some people.

This guide will walk you through how to move your house in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Moving Your House in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

If you’re already fed up with your house’s current location, all you need to move it to the top of the hills or any area of your choice are some conversations and Bells (Money). However, you’ll need to have upgraded your Resident Services building for the feature to unlock amid your campaign.

With that out of the way, let’s get right into it:

  • Go to the upgraded Resident Services building on your island, where you usually talk to Tom Nook
  • Approach the front desk and sit on the chair in front of it to initiate a conversation with Tom Nook
  • Select About my home from the options that come up on the screen
  • Next, select I want to relocate
  • Tom Nook will ask you for 30,000 Bells to make the relocation possible. But unlike your previous mortgage privileges, you’ll have to pay the money this time at once
  • Select I’m ready to move to go ahead with it
  • Next, Tom Nook will hand over a moving kit, which will be placed in your pocket. You’ll have to come back if your pockets are full at the time
  • Now, exit the building and head over to the spot to which you want to relocate your house
  • Press the action button to open your pockets and select the moving kit
  • In the menu that pops up next, select Build Here
  • Lastly, your house will be mounted onto your chosen spot, but you’ll need an open space five squares wide by four squares deep to make that open

Milestones to Hit Before Relocating Your House

As discussed earlier, you’ll need to attain certain heights in your campaign before the option to relocate your house gets unlocked. Speaking of the Resident Services building upgrade, it’ll upgrade automatically once you’ve reached these preset milestones, subsequently allowing you to relocate your house.

The required milestones are as follows:

  • Upgrade the Animal Crossing: New Horizons shop
  • Create Your First Bridge, a makeshift one
  • Invite more villagers to your island
  • Wait for the next real-world day or move your Nintendo Switch system time forward

Final Notes

And that’s how to move your house in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. But it’d interest you to know that your house is not the only thing you can move in the game. As you progress further in your campaign, you’ll also get the option to change the layout and location of other edifices. Simply walk into the Resident Services building to talk to Tom Nook again. He’s at your beck and call.
