How to Get Bamboo in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Bamboo is one of the handiest crafting tools in New Horizons, so I’d understand why Nintendo EPD made it a tad difficult to come across compared to similar items such as snowflakes, maple leaves, and summer shells.
You can easily snag these items in your net while walking around your island, but you can also get a fair amount of Bamboo if you know where and how to harvest it. The steps in this guide will help you in that regard, so keep reading to find out.
Getting Bamboo in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Bamboo plants are hidden away in mystery islands, so it’s high time you left your comfort zone and get ready for some adventure. Use the following steps:
- Visit the Residents Services building on your island
- Go to the lower-right of the room to access the Nook Stop
- Choose Redeem Nook Miles from the options right above the Nook Shopping option
- Next, navigate to and select Nook Miles Ticket. As you can see from the price tag, this item costs 2,000 Nook Miles, so ensure you have enough before proceeding. You can earn more Nook Miles by completing different tasks on your island
- Redeem the Nook Miles Ticket and wait for the machine to dispense your ticket
Quick Tip: The following steps are purely based on luck, so you might want to buy enough Nook Miles Tickets at once so that you can repeat the steps from Resident Services if you don’t find a bamboo Island.
- Head to your island airport to make a request to Orville at the desk, saying, “I wanna fly!”
- Use your acquired Nook Miles Ticket in the next prompt to begin dialoguing with Wilbur
- Wilbur will begin the flight to a hidden island. You will know when you’ve arrived on an island with bamboo trees, as it’s always evident from the plane view
- If you don’t see any bamboo after hovering over the island, you’ll have to go back to your island and repeat the process from the Resident Services building, which is why I recommend buying enough tickets. Wilbur flying to an island with Bamboo trees is based on luck
- When you eventually find an island with Bamboo, dig up marked spots around the bamboo plant with your shovel. This will get you bamboo shoots, which you can pack back home and plant on your island
- Alternatively, suppose you’re more interested in the Bamboo materials than the plants; get a stone/flimsy axe and harvest bamboo pieces with it
Quick Tip: Each bamboo plant can only produce three pieces per day when hit with an axe. Here’s how to get an axe in Animal Crossing. Also, if you harvest Bamboo pieces during spring, you’ll get a different crafting item in Young Spring Bamboo.
- Another brilliant thing you can do with a bamboo tree is to take the entire tree back home. You can do this by eating a shoot from the tree and then hitting it with a shovel. This approach saves you time waiting for a plant to grow when you take it back home
- Hit Wilbur up again and tell him to take you back home
Final Notes
There you have it! Now that you know where and how to get one, touch down on those islands and get some to plant for the development of your island.
