How to Get a Flimsy Shovel in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

A shovel is just as important as an axe in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Without one, you cannot go far or even progress in your campaign at some point. Speaking of shovels, a flimsy one is what you get after the first few days on your island.

While it’s the weakest of all available shovels in ACNH and only ideal for light tasks, you’ll still find it handy, especially when you need to mine rocks, dig up holes, or do some planting on your island. Here’s how to easily get a flimsy shovel in Animal Crossing: new horizons.

How to Craft a Flimsy Shovel

Like most tools in ACNH, you can only get the flimsy shovel by crafting it, after which you’ll be able to buy it from the Nook’s Cranny for a few bells once it gets unlocked. You’ll need a DIY recipe to craft the flimsy shovel, which you’ll receive when Blathers comes to your island for the first time.

To get Blathers to come to your island, you’ll need to complete your first-day tutorials and donate five bugs or fishes to Tom Nook when you get the prompt. After this, you’ll be allowed to choose a location for a museum, after which you’ll need to visit Blathers in his tent the following day at 5 AM.

Once you dialog with Blathers, he’ll hand over two DIY recipes to you, one for a flimsy shovel and the other for a vaulting pole. The flimsy shovel recipe is five pieces of hardwood, which you can get by learning how to get hardwood in Animal Crossing.

Once you’ve gotten the required materials, hit a workbench on your island and craft the flimsy shovel using the hardwood pieces. The only caveat with the flimsy shovel is that, like other flimsy tools, it breaks easily after just 40 uses.

But, not to worry, you can always upgrade to a better one by learning how to get a shovel in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

How to Buy a Flimsy Shovel

You don’t always have to craft a flimsy shovel whenever you need a new one. Provided you’ve crafted one before and have built the Nook’s Cranny. The flimsy shovel automatically unlocks after that, and you can get it from the Nook’s Cranny for just a few bells.

But you know what’s even better? You can upgrade the Nook’s Cranny to get even more colorful, outdoorsy tools, which are just as good as their upgraded counterparts. But there’s a catch: you’ll need to attain the following milestones:

  • You need to have had the Nook’s Cranny for 30 days at least
  • Mabel needs to have set up her clothing shop in front of the Resident Services building
  • You need to have earned up to 200,000 Bells at the Nook’s Cranny

With all these requirements, you’ll be up and running in no time at all.
