Steps on How to Chop Down Trees in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
To chop down trees in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you’ll first need an axe. And we’re not talking about a flimsy axe here; you’ll need the real deal, an Axe or Stone Axe. We’ve put together a guide for you on how to craft an axe in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Once you’ve got an axe, follow the steps below to chop down trees in Animal Crossing: New Horizons:
- Equip your axe
- Position your character such that you face the tree you want to chop down
- Press A on your Switch to hit the tree. Do so three times
After hitting the tree for the third time, it will fall over and disappear, leaving behind a stump. The stump left behind will remain there and never grow back into a tree. You can decide to leave it there.
Keep in mind that any axe in Animal Crossing: New Horizons will eventually wear out and break into pieces after hitting it at something several times.
- A Stone Axe will break after 100 uses
- An Axe will break after 100 uses
- A Flimsy Axe will break after 40 uses
- A Golden Axe will break after 200 uses
While an axe won’t last forever, the good thing is that your character has no designated stamina gauge and, as a result, can hit with an axe infinitely and without getting tired.
How to Avoid Wasps While Cutting Down Trees
Chopping down trees in Animal Crossing: New Horizons isn’t all a funfair. There are wasp nests hidden under some trees. And if you chop down that tree, it’s going to spell doom. The wasps will chase you, stinging you as you run.
Thankfully, you can avoid ‘Wrath of the Wasps’ by applying the following strategy:
- Equip your net when you find a tree to chop. You can do this for all trees since you can’t figure out which one has wasps nests beforehand
- While holding your net, face the target tree and press A on your Switch to shake it
- The wasps will fall out in droves if they’re lurking in the tree. Position your net to capture them before they sting you.
