Clean All EXIF Data From Your Photos Before Sharing Them [Android]

Cameras on phones have grown exceptionally sophisticated over time and not just in terms of photo quality but in terms of the digital data they can capture in addition to your photos. Date, location, compression, resolution, flash, exposure time, and more. If you’ve taken a photo with the Google camera app and made use of its blur feature then you know the image comes with additional information regarding depth and an entire depth map. All this means our phone cameras are great and super awesome but at the same time, they also give away information we might not want to share such as the location of where a photo was taken. It might not be as big a deal for photos that stay on our hard drives but for those we share, a little caution is always a good idea. Meet EZ UnEXIF Free (EXIF Remover), a free Android app that removes all the EXIF data in a photo and saves it as a copy or overwrites the original one, according to your preference.

EZ UnEXIF Free has a free and paid version. The free version has ads that are not very intrusive. Removing EXIF data is a three step process. First you select the files; you can pick them from one of the photo apps such as the Gallery app or you can choose the file browser option. The file browser option doesn’t require you to have a file browsing app installed on your device. Instead, it adds a file explorer on the next screen and you can browse for the photos you want to clean.

The next screen is the Action screen where you choose where the files are saved and whether or not to overwrite the current photo or save it as a copy. Tap the ‘Next’ button and you’ll be taken to the ‘Result’ screen that indicates the process is complete.

The app is pretty fast but it leaves us wanting more. I’d like to be able to choose what data is removed and what is retained. The app also cleans one image at a time with no support for multiple images or entire albums. That being said, it’s a quick tool that you can use to maintain your privacy when sharing photos publicly.
