MyTextTwister For WP7: Decorate Your Text Messages With ASCII Art
Are you a fan of ASCII art? We are too! In the olden times, people used to hire calligraphers to create beautiful illustrations of text for various purposes like sending invitations, special messages, or as decorations. Nowadays, it just takes a Windows Phone 7 to create ornamental messages for your loved ones with MyTextTwister, an app that offers an interesting set of styles to decorate your text messages (SMS, emails etc), and is ideal for sending greetings to friends and family.
If you have been around since the old days of text-only computing, you must be more than familiar with all the elaborate ASCII art one would come across all over Usenet newsgroups. Even when the GUI era took off, most people had slow internet connections and graphic files were heavy, so many resorted to using ASCII art for decorating their websites, emails and other documents to keep the file sizes in check. Though after the advent of broadband, the role of ASCII art has become merely cosmetic since speed and storage space is no longer an issue of most of us. Still, the nostalgia associated with this form of art, the elaborate patterns that can be created using it, and the sheer ‘geekiness’ there is to it keeps many its loyal fans.
Coming back to the app, MyTextTwister has a straight forward interface. You simply have to type your desired message, and choose a style for your text from under the Twisting Logic option. Once you are satisfied with your choice, you can send the text as an SMS, email it to someone, or share it on Facebook.
If you feel like adorning your message even more, tap the snowflake button to decorate the text. The decorate options offers three different styles, namely greetings, characters and assorted. You don’t need to return to the previous screen to share the message after you’ve chosen a style of your liking. You’ll find all three sharing options within the decorate screen.
All in all, MyTextTwister is a simple app and and does not require much figuring out, as is apparent. Anyone can grab it and start creating ASCII art that would otherwise take us hours to create manually. So what are you waiting for?
