Install Android 2.3 Gingerbread Themed ROM On Motorola Defy
With the recent release of Android 2.3 Gingerbread, several Gingerbread themed ROMS have been released based on earlier Android releases to bring the Gingerbread UI to users without a compromise on the Android OS features and hardware support. If you are the owner of a Motorola Defy, you can also enjoy the Gingerbread interface on your device by flashing it with Android 2.1 Éclair based and Gingerbread themed Jboogie3 BlurlessGinger ROM.

The Jboogie3 BlurlessGinger ROM was released recently by Jboogie3 at ModMyMobile forums. It is a deodexed ROM optimized to run on the Defy and packs a complete Gingerbread theme across the UI. Most elements of Motorola’s MOTOBLUR UI have been removed as well to emulate a complete Gingerbread experience. Additional features include Launcher Pro, wireless tethering ability and more.
The ROM has been tested by many users with success, and the only major problem that has been reported is a force close when going into Settings > Accounts. Accounts can still be added and removed but just not via Settings > Accounts. Also, in the messaging app, the font color for sender/recipient needs to be changed.
Before you can flash this ROM, your device has to be rooted. To install this ROM:
- Download it from the link given below and copy it to the root of your SD card.
- Power your phone off and boot it into recovery.
- From recovery, perform a NANDROID backup.
- From recovery, choose to install zip from SD card, and select the ROM’s zip file that you copied to the SD card in Step 1.
- Wait patiently while the ROM is installed and once it’s done, select reboot.
That’s it, you now have the Gingerbread themed ROM installed on your Motorola Defy. For feature requests, bug reports or updates, head over to the thread at ModMyMobile forums.
